Even more useful is the process you use to develop the job description internally and the behavioral characteristics of your ideal candidate. The smartest employers, who hire the best people, recruit a pre-qualified candidate pool of potential employees before they need to fill a job. If you already have your dream employer in mind, go directly to the career section of the company’s website. If you track openings on its site, there’s a chance you’ll find just the opportunity that you’ve been waiting for. That’s relatively rare, but there’s nothing stopping you from asking a valued friend who works in your field to let you know about any openings. The working relationships you create at every job may open other doors years in the future.

As I’ve said many times before, you joined LinkedIn to be found, so take full advantage of all the tools available to gain more visibility.
Aside from internal hiring, you should also set up an employee referral program. This is a favorite among recruiters when finding ways on how to find the right candidate for a job because they’re faster and more affordable to hire. This is because you don’t have to spend a vast amount of time and money on creating job ads and chasing potential candidates online. If your strategy isn’t pulling in the expected number of applicants, you can also reach out to passive candidates through email or LinkedIn’s private messaging platform.
Most people join LinkedIn to be found so they can grow their professional network. Before you start reaching out to some of the candidates you find with your first search, narrow your search a bit to see if you can find better-qualified candidates. If you take a look at the preliminary search results, you’ll most likely see hundreds of directors in the biotech field. Not all these people are looking for a job, but I bet at least a few of them would be open to listening to a new opportunity if the situation sounded interesting.
